How can we stop animals from being abused?

  a dog and a cat

For this post I decided to email my question to ASPCA because I believe that animals, like people, should be treated with the respect that they deserve; since if they’re being abuse then they have no way to prevent being abused without the help of a human being.

The following is the question that I sent to ASPCA:

“ What can I do to try to prevent animals from being treated with cruelty? Are there any activities that I can do to volunteer to help animals in my community?”

The following is the reply that I got from ASPCA:

“font>

I’m sorry that my response is coming after your Thursday deadline.  I have been out of the office and did not receive your email until today.  Hopefully it is not too late to offer you some examples of things you can do to help the animals in your community.   Here are some activities you may want to try:

Ideas for Teachers and Students to do as a Classroom or Club

ORGANIZE A FUNDRAISER: Choose a humane society, animal shelter or rescue group to which to donate the proceeds of a bake sale, car wash, book sale or carnival. Contact the organization and ask them for general information to distribute to students and the public.
FORM A CLUB: Organize an animal club that meets weekly. Discuss animal-related topics, go on field trips and develop community service projects.
ORGANIZE AN ANIMAL AWARENESS WEEK: a school or community- wide animal awareness week will help get the message of kindness to animals heard.
GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED: Ask local businesses and the media to spread the word about caring about animals. Organize a dog walk or wash in your community and ask for donations or sponsorship.
VOLUNTEER: Volunteer your time at a local animal organization. They sure can use your help!
SPONSOR A SPEAKER: Invite an animal expert to speak at your school. Host the event in the evening, sell tickets and donate the proceeds to a local humane organization.
GIVE OUT INFORMATION: Man a table at school or in front of the local supermarket. Ask the community to sign a pact to be responsible pet owners. Display all the signatures at the local community center.
EDUCATE: Give out correct information about animals to help people become more informed and responsible.
BE CREATIVE: Perform a play, design a poster, create an animal bulletin board, make a quilt, write a newsletter or write a song about animals.
KEEP UP TO DATE: Read lots of books about animals. It will keep you knowledgeable and accurate.
BE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS: Show others how to be a responsible pet owner by example–be one yourself.
WRITE LETTERS: Write letters to lawmakers and the media expressing your concerns about animals and the environment.
ORGANIZE A DRIVE: Organize a toy, towel or animal food drive in your community. Put a marked container in a high traffic area for people to see. Give the collected items to an animal organization.

I hope this helps you in your efforts to raise awareness in your community.  If there is anything more I can do to assist you in your efforts, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

A great blog that you have to read!

 cat

I have just found a blog post  about cats. When I read this post I felt symatetic towards the cat’s owner because her cat  Butterscotch  has just past away. Since I really like cats I felt sad when I read about Butterscotch dying, but then I realized that he’s in a happy place and he won’t have to suffer any more.  I enjoyed reading this quote by Joseph Addison:

“Love is a second life;
it grows into the soul,
warms every vein,
and beats in every pulse.”

I picked this quote because it’s about grieving over a death of a loved one.

I found this blog post by typing in the words blog+cats under the yahoo tool bar. It took me a while to find this post because I searched through a lot of posts before I found one that I wanted to write about on my blog. Even though this assignment was time consuming, I still enjoyed it.

After I read this post I sent this comment to the blog poster:

“ I know that you feel grief at a time like this, but it’s important to know that Butterscotch is in a happy place, and she won’t have to be unhealthy anymore; and that you had her for the good years of your life. I enjoyed reading your post and especially enjoyed the quote by Joseph Addison.”

Michael Bubble

Michael Buble

I was on a student’s blog from Austrailia , when I came across a person that I’ve never heard of before: Micheal Bubble. I did some research and found that he sings pop and has sold over twelve million albums. While achieving modest chart success in the United States, his albums have reached the top ten in Canada, the UK and Australia.

Michael Buble was born in Burnaby, Brititish Columbia. He became interested in music by listening to his grandfather’s jazz collection.

“Although I like rock and roll and modern music, the first time my granddad played me the Mills Brothers, something magical happened. The lyrics were so romantic, so real… the way a song should be for me. It was like seeing my future flash before me. I wanted to be a singer and I knew that this was the music that I wanted to sing.”

Blog Action Day: Global Warming

October 15, 2007 at 1:17 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

For blog action day I decided to talk about something that is  significantly effecting our envirorment: global warming.

Global warming causes the sea level to rise and causes major climate changes in our environment. These changes can be dangerous because there could be more floods and planets and animals may become extinct because they are not ablet to find a safe envirorment to live in.

Scientists agree that the burning of fossil fuels like oil and coal cause greenhouse gases to escape into the air. These gasses are causing most of the warming. Another cause is  cutting down trees. Trees soak up carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases, from the air.

It’s already to late to stop global warming completely. However, we can conserve energy, recycle, and resuse items to lower the amount of global warming and to protect our environment.

“The global fight against climate change is a vast undertaking that will require sustained global citizenship and vision for decades.”
Kofi Annan, UN secretary general.

Podcast Blogging

October 6, 2007 at 8:44 am | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

podcasts I thought it was interesting that I got to listen to a podcast that was made by 7th grade students from New Jersy instructed by Dr. Frankel. I thought it was interesting that I got to listen to a podcast that was created by students from the same school that I am currently doing a project with.

From listening to this podcast I got ot learn about the history of  musicians along with musicians’ birthdays. I enjoyed this podcast because you got to learn events from teenagers’ point of views.

It took me a while to find this podcast because I couldn’t get itunes downloaded to my computer, so finally I went to www.podomatic.com. I then listened to the voice recording on my computer and sent this comment to the publisher:

“I learned so much from this podcast. This podcast gives listeners an opportunity to learn a variety of information and expose themselves to a variety of music genres. “

What’s stopping you from fulfilling your dreams?

October 3, 2007 at 2:19 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Query: “What are the greatest obstacles to the fulfillment of my dreams and goals?”

                                   achieve distinction

One of my goals is to become a Veterinarian. The obstacle that is causing difficulties for me to achieve my goal is financial issues along with the amount of schooling you must go to become a certified Veterinarian. Some people tell me that it is difficult to get a scholarship because there’s a lot of competition. I’m slowly starting to feel pressured about college and choosing a career since the beggining of 8th grade. I understand that the pressure is gong to keep on building, especially my junior and senior year of high school.  However, I am determined to put all myself into achieving my goal because it will make a significant change in my life.

Producers are making this phenomenal movie into a sequal

This is an example of video blogging

            High School Musical 3

When I saw this video I was astonished, I couldn't believe that they were making High School Musical into a sequel. I am very anxious for this movie to come out. I hope that Monique will be in this movie because she is one of my favorite actresses. If you have any questions about this movie then ask me and I'll give you the answers to my best ability.
